Benefits of Yoga
Yoga has a variety of benefits when practiced regularly. On a physical level, engaging in a yoga practice can result in greater flexibility, and often releases the tension created in our bodies from inactivity (such as sitting in an office chair for long periods of time).
Mentally, practicing yoga helps to bring focus and direction into your every day activities. Just as we physically cleanse our bodies, yoga affords the opportunity to cleanse the mind of anxiety and fear. Yoga certainly does not make the trials of life disappear, but instead replaces our tension with clarity and purpose.
Anatomically speaking, certain asanas can physically calm the mind! For instance, an inversion brings blood back to the head, which causes the brain to release chemicals that send signals to the body and in turn dilate the blood vessels. This involuntary action promotes circulation, which aids in lowering anxiety levels!
